Reception went to Hatton farm where they saw lots of farm animals and pets. The children explored the farm grounds and talked about the animals they saw. Children had the opportunity to feed and pet the animals and ended the day with a tractor ride through the farm grounds.

On Friday 24th June all of the Key stage 2 children took part in Sport’s Day at St Peter’s field. The events included a sprint race, relay race, an egg and spoon race, a hurdle race, shot put, javelin and standing jump. The children all participated in each event and tried their hardest to beat their personal best.

On Monday 20th June all of the children in Key stage 1 took part in Sport’s Day in the playground. The events included a sprint race, obstacle race, an egg and spoon race, a hurdle race, bean bag throw, javelin and the sack race. The children had a fantastic morning and enjoyed participating in all of the events.

Year 1 trip to Cadbury World 28th Jun 2022

On Friday 17th June, Year 1 went to Cadbury World. The children discovered how chocolate is made and they took part in some activities using liquid chocolate. Everyone chose different toppings and tasted the liquid chocolate too! The children learnt about the life of John Cadbury and how he made life better for his factory workers. They also went in the 4D cinema and enjoyed the ride. All the children and teachers had a fantastic time, the children were very well-behaved. Well done year 1!

On Tuesday 21st June, Year 5 were extremely lucky to be spending the day with Historian, Penny, to find out more about the Mayans. Penny shared some of her own photographs and artefacts with year 5 as well as demonstrating how an archeological dig works. The pupils also enjoyed making Mayan pots and learning how to dance like the Mayans!

On Friday 27th May, the whole school took part in celebrations for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee. Pupils wore red white and blue for the day and made crowns to wear to a special afternoon tea party which took place in the playground, with sandwiches, scones and of course, tea!

On Tuesday 17th May, the whole school were extremely lucky to meet an athlete, who has taken part and won medals in the Olympics and other Sports events. Louise Sugden told the children how she had get involved with wheelchair basketball and then moved onto para powerlifting and the training that is involved to become successful in these sports.

Nursery workshop 26th May 2022

On Tuesday 24th May the children had a special visitor in Nursery; they met the school cook who explained what it’s like to work in a kitchen. The children asked lots of questions and found out why hygiene is important whilst cooking, the equipment that is used and the different meals that are made for the children’s lunch. The children then made their own rice krispie cakes; they remembered to wash their hands before they started and were shown how to use a scale to weigh the ingredients. The children then had a ‘Tiger Who Came to Tea’ tea party where they shared their rice krispie cakes with their parents.

This year we were pleased to see the return of the Easter Bonnet competition and assemblies. As always, the standards were extremely high, with an amazing amount of effort having gone into these bonnets at home! Although weren't able to parade the bonnets as planned, we were able to congregate in the hall to hear the winners being announced!

Kidz Fit Workshops 10th Mar 2022

Carl from Kidz Fit visited Shaw Hill on 10th & 11th March to lead workshops for all classes. During these workshops, pupils learnt about different types of exercises as well as how to keep their bodies healthy. Carl also shared some information about the Commonwealth Games taking place in Birmingham this year.

Shaw Hill celebrated World Book Day on Thursday 3rd March. We all dressed up as our favourite book characters and we also made masks based on our favourite book character. We took part in the Shaw Hill masked reader, where the children had to guess the teacher’s favourite book after reading the clues. Can you spot yourself in the pictures?

Nursery Reading and Phonics Workshop On Tuesday 16th November, Nursery parents were invited to attend our reading and phonics workshop in Nursery to learn about the importance of reading with their child and singing nursery rhymes. Parents were shown some of the activities the children engage in throughout Nursery to develop their communication and language skills. They were also given some useful phonics websites and activities to share with their child at home. The children then showed parents some of the phonics songs they have been busy learning so far this year!

Pupils from Reception up to Year 6 had an opportunity to learn a variety of circus skills this week during their Circus Skills workshop. Activities included spinning plates, walking on stilts and hula hooping, which were all much enjoyed by the pupils!
